Microsoft can’t be forced by US government on turn-over of emails stored somewhere outside
In June, Microsoft said that more than 350 million devices ran the operating system. "In the year ahead, we are excited about usage growth coming from commercial deployments and new devices - and increasing customer delight with Windows" he further added as reported by The Verge.
Released in July 2015, Windows 10 has been built to act as a unifying platform across desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, small embedded systems and the Xbox One games console.
"The Anniversary Update will help people be more productive, stay safer online and, of course, have fun", Windows and Devices Group corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi said in a blog post. Microsoft however maintains that Windows 10 will have better user experience than previous versions and also have upgraded security measures in place to prevent phishing, identity theft and viruses.
On a related note, the Windows 10 free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.X users will end at the end of the current month. Because Redmond isn't going to hit its (ambitious) goal of one billion Windows 10 installations by the middle of 2018.
The news comes as Microsoft started offering to perform a same-day upgrade on any Windows 10-compatible PC in its retail stores.
Although the phone platform is still an actively maintained, regularly updated part of the Windows 10 family, Microsoft's mobile ambitions are now greatly reduced.
But in a statement to ZDNet, the company says it will "take longer" to reach that goal.
Other users have even claimed Windows 10 has been installed on their device without their permission. Those steps were part of dismantling the 2014 acquisition of Nokia Corp.'s handset business, a move meant to secure Microsoft's position in the phone market that never materialized.
The company unveiled the target when it launched Windows 10 a year ago, indicating that it would make the latest Windows operating system by far the most popular the company has ever released.
Windows 10 operating system is created to work on laptops, desktops, smartphones, Xbox One consoles, HoloLens augmented reality headsets and more. Facing a backlash from users about such tactics, Microsoft recently said it would make opting out of Windows 10 easier. That offer ends ends July 29. Regardless, the company is confident that more devices will get on board as time goes by.
